Mrs. Chichila
I would like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Nicole Chichila and I am the Learning Specialist at Johnson Upper Elementary. My husband and I have two children and have lived in Livonia for over 20 years. We absolutely love our community. Our son, Alex is in 11th grade and our daughter, Ashley is beginning her 2nd year in college. We also have a mini dachshund, Simba who was named after our favorite Disney movie, The Lion King. We embrace the outdoors and spend many summer days fishing, boating or hiking the woods at our cottage in the Upper Peninsula.
My role of working with struggling learners has always been my passion. I will be at Johnson full time to work with students that need extra support. Johnson is a great place to work and my goal as a teacher is to help students build confidence in their learning and achieve success. This is my 24th year of teaching and I love it! I received my undergraduate and graduate degree from Madonna University. My Master’s in Special Education has helped me in the transition from a classroom teacher of 10 years to a Title I Interventionist to my current position of a Learning Specialist.
I work closely with our Title I staff and classroom teachers to provide extra support in any of the core curriculum areas. Most students will receive support in literacy or math since those areas show the greatest need. Part of my job is to help identify students that could benefit from extra support. We use assessments, formal and informal observations and previous test scores to gather as much information about our students as possible. Then, we offer support in their academic struggles, targeting specific concept areas. We reinforce concepts in a small group setting. Whether your child needs Title I services or Learning Specialist support, you can count on us to notify you of services! You will always have the opportunity to discuss these services with us prior to them starting. I know students learn differently, so I will use lots of different tools to provide support! I believe making learning exciting and engaging will get them over those learning obstacles.
If I can be of any assistance to your family throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'm looking forward to a fantastic year at Johnson!
