Greetings Johnson Community,

Due to the increased number of students with potentially life-threatening dietary restrictions, it was necessary to review and make revisions to past practices.

Johnson Upper Elementary School no longer permits any edible birthday treats coming to school.

As stated above, the increased number of dietary restrictions, along with the amount of  classroom time invested in birthday treat delivery, and the fact that not all students can afford to bring treats, causing embarrassment, we feel this policy will best meet the needs of our students overall.

We will certainly still recognize children's birthdays, and you are welcome -but never required - to send any of the following to honor your child's special day:

*A favorite book donated to the classroom with your child's name inside.
*A favorite book donated to our school library with the child's name inside.
*Pencils for the class.
*Other non-edible tokens that can be shared with the class.

We are asking that birthday celebrations remain in the child's classroom only to avoid other classroom disruption.

We thank you in advance for your understanding and support as we work together to keep all students in a safe learning environment.

Regards,

Ms. DeAnn Urso

Principal
