The students will be reading and writing for extended periods during their Literacy time. Throughout the day,  students will be listening to readalouds, reading independently, reading with partners, participating in small group instruction, and in book clubs. Students will need to write about their thinking in their reading response journal as they read to demonstrate their comprehension through visualizations, connections, inferences, summarizing, and synthesizing.  

During literacy, students will work on improving reading comprehension, expanding vocabulary, increasing accuracy and fluency.  In addition, Literacy time will also include word study and vocabulary work.

It is expected that students will read at home daily for at least 20 minutes.
