Homework!

Homework is such a touchy subject. I try to meet the needs of my students and their parents without sacrificing my personal philosophy too much....

So, here it is...

MY JOB:

I WILL PUT A HOMEWORK PACKET IN THE OUTGOING MAIL BASKET EVERY MONDAY!

STUDENT'S JOB:
1. Pick up a homework packet.
2. Take packet home
3. Do your best to complete the packet.
4. Return the packet to the "In" basket the following Monday.

PARENT"S JOB:
Guess what??
You really don't have a job! Your sixth grader is learning to be responsible!

I fully expect the kids to take care of this on their own. I will never send work that would require your assistance. The homework packet will be very consistent in appearance and content. Homework is a lesson in responsibility and accountability for the child, not the parent. Parents have enough on their plates already! One week is more than enough time for most kids to complete the packet. I understand many kids are involved in sports, churches and  have other "outside of school" responsibilities . I think ALL of these teach valuable life lessons and are important for kids and their families. My goal is NOT to interfere with your families. I don't expect your child to bring their unfinished "home chores" to school, and I won't send their unfinished "school work" home.

 DEAL?

A few more notes about homework......

* There WILL be consequences at school if homework isn't turned in.
*  I NEVER want homework to cause problems between the parent and the child.
*  I NEVER want a child to sit for hours completing their homework.
Set a routine for doing a little each day, at a predictable time.
