Dive into Reading!

Reading Month Goal

We have set a school-wide reading goal of 4,500 hours for the month of March. We will be tracking our reading progress starting March 1. Students will turn in signed coupons for every hour they read.

All School Read

On Friday, March 1st, right after the pledge of allegiance and announcements, every person in our school (including visitors!) will help us kick off Reading Month by stopping everything and reading for 15 minutes. We will close out Reading Month the same way, having an All School Read on March 29 at 3:10 p.m.

Weekly Book Drawing

Each week, one reading coupon will be drawn from each classroom. Each of those students will win a new book.

Classroom Charts

Each classroom will be provided with a chart and stickers to track each student's reading achievement.

March 15:    Wear a Beach Shirt Day

March 22:    Bring an Ocean Animal Day

March 29:    Wear a Hat and/or Sunglasses Day - $1 donation

Guessing Jar

How many shells are in the container? Each of our students will get to make one educated guess. Completed entries should go to Mrs. Harris. Students with correct answers will earn a prize, and their entries will go into a drawing to win something for their class to share.

Where’s Nemo?

Keep a lookout for Nemo. Every time a student finds Nemo, that student gets to move Nemo to his next hiding place.

Who’s Reading That Book?

Teachers are hiding behind a favorite book. For this contest, students will have to find the pictures around the building, figure out which teacher  is reading which book, write down the answer, and turn their answers in to Ms. Bird. Students with correct answers will earn a token prize, and their entries will go into a drawing to win an additional prize.

Movie Ocean Animals Scavenger Hunt Contest!

For this contest, students will have to find the ocean animal signs hidden around the building, figure out which famous ocean animal is which from the riddle, write down the correct answer, and turn their answers in to Mrs. Licavoli. Student entries with correct answers will earn a token prize, and their entries will go into a drawing to win an additional prize.

LMC & Large Group Room Read-Ins

Each class has been encouraged to reserve a read-in time in the LMC or LGR during Reading Month. This is a voluntary activity, solely for the enjoyment of reading. Students are invited to bring books, pillows, and small stuffed animals with them. If the LMC is already busy at a particular time, the large group room is also available.

Community Readers

As always, we encourage teachers to invite other staff members, family members, and other special people to read to their students during the month of March.
