School-Family-Student Compact

A compact is a written statement outlining the partnership schools and families have for helping students achieve.  The staff, families and students of Johnson Upper Elementary share the responsibilities for each student’s academic goals. 

Staff of Johnson Upper Elementary School will support student learning by:

  • Providing a high-quality curriculum based on the Michigan Curriculum Framework, Michigan’s Common Core State Standards and Michigan Educational Technology Standards
  • Providing a safe, welcoming and supportive learning environment
  • Using a variety of assessments to measure students’ progress towards grade level expectations
  • Providing families opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s education
  • Providing reports to families on student progress
  • Actively participating in collaborative decision making with parents and school colleagues to make our school accessible and welcoming for families
  • Respecting the school, staff, students and families of Johnson Upper Elementary
  • Providing and reinforcing supplemental resources to support learning

Families of Johnson Upper Elementary will support their child’s learning by:

  • Ensuring their child’s regular attendance in school as well as adequate sleep, regular medical attention and proper nutrition
  • Prioritizing school and providing a time and place for schoolwork
  • Assisting their child in responsibly returning homework, books and other school materials
  • Attending parent/teacher conferences and maintaining contact with the teacher and/or principal
  • Staying informed about their child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district and responding as appropriate
  • Volunteering in their child’s classroom and/or school if available
  • Following guidelines set forth in Johnson’s Student Handbook
  • Respecting the school, staff, students and families of Johnson Upper Elementary
  • Limiting TV watching, video game playing and computer use that is not educationally related
  • Committing myself to attend one event hosted by Johnson Upper Elementary
  • Reinforcing supplemental resources available to students to support learning

Students of Johnson Upper Elementary School will take responsibility for their learning by:

  • Attending school regularly and be ready to work hard and learn well
  • Bringing necessary materials, completed assignments and homework to school each day
  • Keeping desks, lockers and workspaces clean and well organized
  • Knowing and following school and classroom rules
  • Being responsible for following the guidelines set forth in Johnson’s Student Handbook
  • Communicating regularly with their families and teachers about school experiences in order to keep parents and staff aware of important events and critical incidents
  • Limiting TV watching, video game playing and computer use that is not educationally related
  • Studying and/or reading every day after school
  • Respecting school, staff, students and families of Johnson Upper Elementary
  • Utilize supplemental resources available to support learning
